Language is life. As one of the languages in the world, English also life. We know that like others languages, English has its own characteristic. So the best way to learn English is live approach. If we want to learn English, not only remember English but also we must use English in our life. Writing, reading, listening, speaking, and reflecting are the common way to learn English. By those activities, we will familiar with English. In learning English we must have our own initiative, because teacher just can facilitate us to get the knowledge. He can’t make us suddenly mastering English. In other word we must find our English by ourselves. For example, to improve our English ability, we can reading an article and then reflect the article. When we are reflecting the article, first we must understand the main topic of the article.
So we must read carefully the article and catch the idea from each paragraph. Second, we must try to rewrite the article with our own word and try to express our idea. After that, we can pose the problem, so reader can understand our idea.
Prof. Dr. Marsigit, M.A, 2013, notified that the essential of study is will, Attitude, Knowledge ,Skill, experience. He said that positive thinking, the component of “will” is one of the most important thing in learning proses. It is meaningless when we are learning English but we are thinking, it is impossible to do that.
Commonly language has at least two important components. They are form of the language and the substance of the language. Form of the language need substance of language. We can imagine if we lost in the desert. We will lose our substance of language, our soul and spirit will also lost.
However substance of language is very important. It is meaningless if we learn language without substance. In mathematics education class the substance of English is about mathematics education. So that, in that class will discuss about mathematics education.
Beside the substance, the form of language also has important part in English. In English we know about tenses. Tenses are the orientation in writing and speaking English. Because of that, it’s very important to us to understand about tenses. This is the example:
• I’m going to read
• I have been reading
• I have read
• I read
• I was reading
• I will read
• I will be reading
• I will have been reading
Those sentences are influenced by time. Actually, if we want to use good English we should not only learn about that but also about verb, adjective, modal etc. To learn all of that, student initiative is needed. We can use internet to help us to learn English so that we can learn English individually. After we learn English from the internet, it’s better if we implement English to our live. The implementation will make us easily to understand English. At the end we must remember that if we want to find the knowledge we must destroy our arrogance. Because if you arrogant your knowledge will gone.
